There I Find Delight

Verses for Thought

These verses all serve to convict me that I need to do my best at everything that I do, no matter what it is. They also convict me that I cannot do my best apart from the study of God's Word. Most certainly, they comfort me to know the steadfast love and power of the Lord.

"We love because he first loved us." -John 4:19

"The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?" -Psalm 118:6

"It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man." -Psalm 118:8

"Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever." -Psalm 118:1

"He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord." -Psalm 112:7

"But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yeilds its fruit in season and whose leaf does not whither. Whatever he does prospers." -Psalm 1:2-3

"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth." -2Timothy 2:16

"Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the grave, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom." -Ecclesiastes 9:10

  • "But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yeilds its fruit in season and whose leaf does not whither. Whatever he does prospers." -Psalm 1:2-3

What an amazing piece of scripture. When you break it down to see the raw meat of the word, there is such meaning and understanding that can not be denied. An analogy so simple, yet so true and real. We must also follow Christ's example and grow our roots deep into the soil and always be fruitful.

  • Thank you for your honest comments JG. I've enjoyed reading them and have been encouraged by your sincerity.

Psalm 1: 2-3 are verses I read often to remind me to push on in my studies and not allow myself to be distracted by the pressures of the outside world, for without God's Word to sustain me I will have no strength left to continue in my efforts anyway. Also, I've recently been reading Ecclesiastes and am reminded that God is my source of meaning. Why toil at all if it is not to His glory?
